Plukon Food Group acquires Polish poultry business Algas

POLAND – Netherlands based poultry company, Plukon Food Group, is currently in the process of acquiring the assets of its Polish counterpart, Algas SP.

While financial specifics of the acquisition remain undisclosed, Plukon will be assuming control of Algas’s slaughterhouse and processing facilities located near Katowice, Poland.

However, the Szatan family, who own Algas, will retain a stake in the business operations of its slaughterhouse and processing factory.

The transaction is set to provide both entities with opportunities to expand their activities in Poland, fostering growth and enhancing their capacity to supply high-quality fresh and frozen poultry products to retail and foodservice customers across Europe.

Plukon, presently positioned as the fourth largest poultry company in Europe and the 19th largest globally, sees this acquisition as a strategic move to fortify its presence in the Polish market and reinforce its commitment to growth and leadership in the European poultry sector.

CEO of Plukon, Kees Kraijenoord, regards the acquisition as a pivotal step in strengthening their foothold in Poland and emphasizes the potential synergies that can be derived from integrating Algas within the Plukon Food Group.

“We are delighted to welcome Algas and the Szatan family within our group and to realize synergies arising from our combined assets and capabilities,” he said.

Szczepan Szatan, a spokesperson for the Szatan family, highlights their enthusiasm for the partnership with Plukon and their dedication to the continued success of the company.

“The Szatan family remains deeply committed to the continued success of the company and looks forward to a fruitful collaboration with Plukon,” he said.

Algas, led by the Szatan family, has emerged as a notable player in southern Poland’s broiler slaughtering and poultry processing sector since its inception in 1997.

The acquisition presents a transformative opportunity for Algas, allowing them to leverage Plukon’s resources and expertise to accelerate their growth trajectory.

The purchase of Algas marks Plukon’s third acquisition in the past year, demonstrating their commitment to strategic expansion and consolidation within the poultry industry.
