Thanksgiving is a national holiday in the United States, celebrated on the fourth Thursday of November. It traces its origins back to 1621, when the Pilgrims at Plymouth Colony (MA) shared a harvest feast with the Wampanoag people.

The holiday became more formalized in 1863, during the Civil War, when President Abraham Lincoln proclaimed a national Thanksgiving Day to be held each November.

Over time, Thanksgiving has evolved into a day for families and friends to gather, enjoy a meal, and give thanks to God, for the blessings of the past year. Traditional foods include turkey, stuffing, and pumpkin pie.
