Dr. Alan Harrelson is a husband, father and founder/owner of The Pipe Cottage & Online Social Community, Pipe Cottage Social.

He is a native South Carolinian who now resides on a 200 acre farm in the mountains of southeast Kentucky.

His doctoral research focused on the history of American rural life and the historical significance of Southern agrarian thought.

A recent convert to the Catholic Church, Harrelson’s current research interests explore the contributions of Catholic writers and thinkers to the literary history of rural America.

An avid pipe smoker, Harrelson offers commentary on all things pipe smoking through his social media brand called The Pipe Cottage and has his large online community, Pipe Cottage Social.
